Panos Story Prompts UNAIDS Study of Wives’ Vulnerability to HIV

Panos Pakistan has, for the last 4 years – since the work on UNGASS reporting and the film “Kya Hum Vaada Nibha Rahe Hain?” – been focusing attention on women’s vulnerability to HIV and AIDS in the country.  Policy-makers are gradually waking up to the dangers HIV poses to millions of women, particularly married women in Pakistan, whose low status puts them at greater risk.  The issue is also the subject of a report and survey commissioned by Panos Pakistan last year, which is to be published soon. Red Alert! Women at Risk! Is a briefing paper for Pakistani media on the factors that make women vulnerable to HIV.  This is accompanied by a survey and analysis of media coverage of HIV and AIDS in Pakistan from a gender perspective
