| Panos Fellow Brian Ligomeka wins Stop TB Award |

Panos GAP is proud to announce the first place winner of the Stop TB Partnership's Award for Excellence in Reporting on Tuberculosis 2008: Brian Ligomeka of Malawi. Brian was awarded the Panos/ Stop -TB Media Fellowship in the year 2005. Commenting on his Award, he had this to say, "While I am being recognised for being a professional health journalist, it should be known that many players assisted in one way or the other in accomplishing this feat. Panos Global AIDS Programme, for instance, awarded me a [Stop- TB] Fellowship a few years ago, which, among other things, gave me a lot of insight on the links between HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and poverty." Like Brian, many other journalists have found Panos media trainings on TB very useful.The Panos GAP pre-conference training programme in connection with the International AIDS Conference, 2008, at Mexico City in early August, led to many learning experiences. "The first two days of training on TB were fabulous," said Cedriann J Martin from Trinidad and Tobago. "I had no grounding in TB and now feel equipped to write and fuelled to investigate." While Prudence Irakoze from Burundi stated, " TB is underreported in Burundi and there are no opportunities for training journalists on TB. The training improved my capacity to write on HIV and TB.
